Regan A. Miller
Retired Chief District Court Judge

I initially encountered Judge Samantha Mobley when she applied for a position as a magistrate with the District Court in Mecklenburg County. As the Chief District Court Judge, I was pleased to recommend her to the Clerk of Court and the Senior Resident Superior Court Judge for appointment to the position following an interview. I found her to be eager, intelligent, and professional in her demeanor. I concluded that she would be able to perform the duties of a judicial official with wisdom, integrity, and compassion. Once appointed, she more than met these expectations and has continued to exhibit the same as a district court judge. Therefore, I wholeheartedly endorse her reelection as a district court judge.

When I was a Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Courts it gave me a unique perspective to observe Judge Mobley in a variety of courtrooms. She was always professional, never let emotions from individuals or personal emotions cloud her judgement. Judge Mobley always followed the evidence when making a judgement.

Judge Samantha Mobley is a true supporter of young people in the Charlotte community. She has volunteered her time to talk with students at our school teaching and listening to them about their social, emotional, and behavioral needs. As a District Court Judge in Mecklenburg County, she shares what it’s like to serve in the courtroom and helps students understand the judicial system and the importance of making good choices.

Judge Mobley leads meaningful activities with the students, such as answering questions about her career, discussing how to stay safe, encouraging students to make education a top priority, and sharing information about the Constitution. Through these conversations, she inspires students to be responsible members of their community — people who respect others, understand their rights and responsibilities, and work to make a positive difference in their school and the world around them.

Working with Judge Mobley was one of the most impactful parts of my internship. In the courtroom, I observed her leadership as she presided over cases involving domestic violence, protective orders, and criminal proceedings. I saw firsthand how she balanced empathy for victims with the responsibility of ensuring fairness for all parties involved.

Beyond the courtroom, Judge Mobley provided me with invaluable mentorship. She invited me to accompany her to community events and meetings with various organizations. These experiences gave me the chance to learn directly from policymakers, legislators, and advocates who are shaping reforms in criminal justice and equity.

Karen Johnson

Former Chief Magistrate

Mecklenburg County

I began supervising Judge Mobley in 2013 when I served as the Chief Magistrate in Mecklenburg County. Judge Mobley approached her work differently than her peers. She took meticulous notes and created a Magistrate reference guide that she shared with new magistrates to help bring them up to speed quickly. It was apparent that she had what it takes to be successful. She demonstrated that she was reliable by always showing up for work. She was consistent and treated everyone the same. I am proud to see what she has accomplished since our time working together.

I work among our underserved neighbors in Charlotte every day, and I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve run into Judge Mobley volunteering her time with them. From serving nourishing meals to hungry people at Salvation Army’s Center of Hope to greeting neighbors at National Night Out, and cheering on high schoolers as they shared about their mental health journey at This Is My Brave’s event at CPCC; I have seen Samantha there at the street level, serving with her sleeves rolled up, and sharing a smile and an encouraging word. Judge Mobley is the epitome of a true public servant, and such a blessing to our city.
